Course Description
Title: Refresher Standard First Aid with AED (RFAC)
Objectives:
  1. Prepare trainees for the role of being a First Aider
  2. Prepare trainees with the necessary skills in identifying, planning and managing an emergency situation
  3. Equip trainees with the basic information and knowledge on common accidents, medical emergencies, illnesses, injuries and its causes
  4. Provide trainees with the skills in rendering First Aid to common accidents, its related injuries and medical emergencies
  5. Managing cardiac arrest casualties - knowing its signs, symptoms and early preventive measures
  6. Know the Chain of Survival and your role as a rescuer
Outcomes:
  1. Recognise a medical emergency situation
  2. Activate the appropriate emergency response system and follow the Emergency Action principles
  3. Recognise the signs and symptoms of identified emergencies, illnesses and injuries
  4. Perform the necessary and correct First Aid treatment to a casualty based on the emergency, illness and injury
  5. Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for adult victims
  6. Perform CPR for adult victims with the appropriate use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machine

Requirements and Certification
Certification:
  • (1) Standard First Aid AND (2) CPR + Automated External Defibrillator
  • Assessment: For Refresher Standard First Aid:
    (i) Theory Assessment (Multiple Choice Questions - 70% Pass)
    (ii) Practical Assessment

    For Refresher CPR + AED:
    (i) Theory Assessment (Multiple Choice Questions - 80% Pass)
    (ii) Practical Assessment

    - Participants would need to fulfil 100% course attendance in order to be eligible for the assessments
    - Participants who fail the final attempt for any component will have to retake the entire course

    This course is accredited by the National First Aid Council and the National Resuscitation Council. Each certificate is valid for two years.
    Pre-requisites: A valid (non-expired) certficate must be presented upon enrolment. Certficate must be valid until the course is completed. 

    Existing certificate holders are recommended to enrol for a refresher course three months before the date of expiry on your certificate.
    Language: English
    Medical fitness:
    • No history of underlying medical heart and lung conditions
    • Must be physically fit with no pre-existing medical conditions such as knee, spinal or joints injury. Please consult your doctor before attending the course
    • Pregnant ladies are discouraged from undertaking the CPR practice due to safety reasons. In case of doubt, please consult your doctor
