Course Description
Title: Basic Cardiac Life Support Instructor Training Course
Objectives: By the end of this classroom-based training course, Trainee-Instructors will be able to:
  1. Be a role model exemplary of an NRC-accredited instructor
  2. Conduct the BCLS Provider Course in accordance with NRC guidelines
  3. Ensure consistency with the practical performance and assessment in accordance with the standards laid down by the NRC
Outcomes: 1. Exhibit the characteristics required of a NRC-accreditated instructor
2. Be a role model in provision of the skill
3. Conduct courses in a manner that helps participants stay engaged in the learning process
4. Understand the needs to maintain a completed and accurate record and report
5. Plan, organize, and conduct the BCLS course in accordance to the NRC guidelines
6. Monitor participants' practice and provide corrective feedback and encouragement that is consistent with the standards of performance expected
7. Recognize that the theory and practical assessments are to test the provider's understanding of the key steps in the skill and ability to carry out the skills in accordance with the standards laid down by the NRC.

Requirements and Certification
  • Certified as a BCLS Instructor
  • Assessment: Appointment as BCLS Instructor who meet the passing criteria within 12 months from course commencement which includes: ● Phase 1: BCLSI Course (12 hrs) - Theory Assessment (20 MCQ, 80% to pass, 16/20) ● Phase 2: BCLS Provider Course Observation (Based on TC's policies) ● Phase 3A: BCLS Trainee-Instructor Assessment 1 (T1) ● Phase 3B: BCLS Trainee-Instructor Assessment 2 (T2) ● Phase 3C: BCLS Review of Performance by BCLSI Chief Instructor ● Phase 4: Collection of BCLS Instructor Certificate (Card) Upon completion of classroom training, participants are required to complete at least 1 attachment with Singapore Red Cross Academy and another attachment at any NRC Accredited BCLS Training Centre. Once the 2 attachments have been completed, a valid BCLS Instructor Certificate
    • Valid BCLS Provider Certification (NRC-accredited)
    • ESS Workplace literacy and numeracy Level 5 and above
    • Able to communicate effectively in English language for class facilitation purposes

    Medical fitness:  
    • Does not have any history or underlying medical heart and lung conditions or any physical disabilities/problems such as knee, spinal or joints injury. Please consult your doctor to get the necessary clearance to undertake the CPR practice.
    • Pregnant ladies are discouraged from undertaking the CPR practice for safety reasons
