Course Description
Title: Refresher First Aid for Infant Care/Child Care Providers
Objectives:
  1. To prepare participants with First Aid skills to manage common accidents amongst children and infants at home or in school
  2. Effective Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for infant and child casualties
  3. Managing Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (choking) in infants and children
  4. Safety information and standards for infants and children in Singapore
Outcomes:
  1. Recognise a medical emergency situation involving infants and children
  2. Activvate the appropriate emergency response system and follow the Emergency Action principles for infant and child casualties
  3. Recognise the signs and symptoms of identified child-related emergencies, illnesses and injuries
  4. Perform the necessary and correct First Aid treatment to an infant or child casualty based on the emergencies, illnesses and injuries
  5. Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for infant and child casualties
Modules:
  1. Principles and Practice of First Aid
  2. The Respirator System in a Child
  3. The Circulatory System
  4. The Nervous System
  5. The Musculoskeletal System
  6. Skins and Burns
  7. Revision on Practical Components (Bandaging and CPR included)

Requirements and Certification
Certification:
  • Child First Aid (2 years validity)
  • Assessment: (i) Theory Assessment (Multiple Choice Questions - 70% Pass)
    (ii) Practical Assessment

    - Participants would need to fulfil 100% course attendance in order to be eligible for the assessments
    - Participants who fail the final attempt for any component will have to retake the entire course

    This course is accredited by the National First Aid Council. Each certificate is valid for two years.
    Pre-requisites: A valid (non-expired) certificate must be presented upon enrolment. Certificate must be valid until the course is completed. 

    Existing certificate holders are recommended to enrol for a refresher course three months before the date of expiry on your certificate.
    Language: English
    Medical fitness:
    • No history of underlying medical heart and lung conditions
    • Must be physically fit with no pre-existing medical conditions such as knee, spinal or joints injury. Please consult your doctor before attending the course
    • Pregnant ladies are discouraged from undertaking the CPR practice due to safety reasons. In case of doubt, please consult your doctor
