Course Description
Title: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) + Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
  1. Concept of Chain of Survival
  2. Vital functions of the heart
  3. Recognise causes, signs and symptoms of a heart attack and cardiac arrest
  4. Provide resuscitation (CPR) to an adult and infant
  5. Manage a foreign body airway obstruction (choking) in adult and infant casualties
  6. Perform the use of AED on an adult casualty
  1. Recognise a heart attack, cardiac arrest and how to prevent it
  2. Activate appropriate emeregncy response system and follow the Emergency Action Principles
  3. Perform the necessary resuscitation for foreign body airway obstruction that affects an adult and infant casualty
  4. Perform the necessary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult and infant casualty
  5. Safe administration of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) machine

  3. Adult CPR (One Man Rescuer) 
  4. Proper Chest Compression Guidelines
  5. Managing Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (Choking) in Adult and Infant Casualties (Includes Infant CPR)
  6. Safety in CPR Training
  7. Familiarisation of the AED Kits
  8. Practical Session on Performing CPR with AED

Requirements and Certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) + Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
  • Assessment: (i) Theory Assessment (Multiple Choice Questions - 80% to pass)
    (ii) Practical Assessment

    - Participants would need to fulfil 100% course attendance in order to be eligible for the assessments
    - Participants who fails the final attempt for any component will have to retake the entire course

    This course is accredited by the National Resuscitation Council. Each certificate is valid for two years.
    Pre-requisites: NIL
    Language: English
    Medical fitness:
    • No history of underlying medical heart and lung conditions
    • Must be physically fit with no pre-existing medical conditions such as knee, spinal or joints injury. Please consult your doctor before attending the course
    • Pregnang ladies are discouraged from undertaking the CPR practice due to safety reasons. In case of doubt, please consult your doctor
